Seychelles President Sends Message For Momentous World Cup In South Africa

June 11, 2010 -- President James Michel has sent a message of congratulations to the President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Jacob Zuma and the government and people of South Africa 'on this momentous achievement as the first World Cup on the African continent is about to kick-off.'.

The President thanked President Zuma for inviting him to participate in the official opening ceremony of the World Cup which will be  held on 11th June 2010, at the Soccer City Stadium, in Johannesburg. The President also sent his regrets for not being able to attend this event.

"Every Seychellois is proud that this is an African World Cup, because Africa is our continent.  We are proud to see our continent as the focal point for the world. These are uncertain times for economies around the world.  The hosting of this world cup is a timely reminder that Africa is the continent of the future, the continent of opportunity and the continent of growth," said President Michel in his message.

President Michel said that Seychelles, as one of the smallest African nations, is  pleased to play its part in this global celebration.
"We are delighted to be able to share the joy of South Africa in hosting this landmark event which will be remembered for generations to come. Together, the nations of Africa are showing the true potential of our continent, the true potential of our sportsmen.  It is truly the chance for South Africa, and Africa as a whole to shine."

The President offered his full support to President Zuma on this momentous occasion and wished South Africa and its people every success in hosting this memorable event on behalf of the African continent.
