Message To US On 9/11 Anniversary

The 10th anniversary of the 11th September attacks in New York and other American facilities "should be an occasion for us to reflect", President James Michel said in a message sent to President Barack Obama of the United States of America.

President Michel expressed renewed condolences and solidarity of the Seychellois people during this time.

"I strongly believe that this 10th anniversary should be an occasion for us to reflect ... we should stay steadfast in pursuing what we believe in as a community of nations - respect for human life, justice, tolerance, pluralism and democracy," said President Michel.

The President thanked the United States government for the commitment to combating international threats, especially piracy.

"Sadly the world is still facing more ruthless forms of terrorism and the manifestation of piracy off the coast of Somalia has given a new face and amplitude to international threats which threaten the socio-economic fibre of the world; small island developing states like Seychelles have not been spared. Therefore, no country can stand alone in this fight. The onus is on every country of the world to maintain peace and security," President Michel told President Obama.

The President of Seychelles pledged the commitment of his island-nation in always working to achieve global harmony as the only path to a better world.
