President James Michel expresses condolences following demise of former UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali

Following the demise of former United Nations Secretary General, Mr Boutros Boutros-Ghali, President James Michel on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles has expressed his deepest condolences.

Mr Boutros Boutros-Ghali served as Secretary General of both the United Nations  Organisation and the Organisation international de la Francophonie.

In his message of condolence, President Michel described Mr Boutros-Ghali as “..not only a towering statesman of our time but also a great son of Egypt and the our African continent.”

He further noted “Seychelles has fond memories of Mr. Boutros-Ghali as one of the most accomplished Secretaries-General of the UN who played a key role in advocating for a more equitable future for the developing world.

In his letter Mr Michel remarked that the late Mr Boutros-Ghali leaves behind a legacy of peace and unity and will be remembered for his great contribution to the UN.

Mr Michel also highlighted Mr Boutros-Ghali’s contribution and relentless work towards the promotion of the French language and building stronger bridges of cooperation in the francophone world as the 1st Secretary General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie.
