Appointment of new Member of the Constitutional Appointments Authority

The President has appointed Ms Marie-Nella Azemia as the new Member of the Constitutional Appointments Authority, replacing the late Ms Marlene Lionnet. Her appointment has been made in accordance with Section 140 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles and it took effect on Friday 27 May, 2016.

Mrs Marie-Nella Azemia who is aged 60, started her career as a teacher, before moving on to work for 10 years in the Trade Union movement.  She pursued Law Studies, and undertook her pupillage  at the Oceangate Law Centre and La Poudriere Law Chambers.  She became a proportionately elected Member of the National Assembly in 1993, a seat which she held for five years.

In 1998 Mrs Azemia joined the Secretariat of the National Assembly, first as Deputy Clerk, and then Clerk to the National Assembly, until 2009.

She decided to focus her energies full-time thereafter in civil society organisations, where  she has had a prominent role serving as Vice-Chair and later Chair of LUNGOS, the former Liaison Unit for Non-Governmental Organisations.  Her civil society engagement has focused on peace, human rights, empowerment, and women's issues.  Presently she is Director of Nell's Consultancy Services.
