President Danny Faure Visits Baie Lazare District

President Danny Faure, accompanied by community leaders and representatives of government services and agencies, visited various locations in the Baie Lazare district this morning.

Baie Lazare is the twelfth district President Faure has visited as part of his ongoing community programme to assess the progress of district projects firsthand, visit areas facing challenges, and interact with members of the community.

President Faure’s tour of Baie Lazare started at Anse La Mouche coastline which is currently affected by severe erosion, despite the mitigation of the effects by the recently completed rock armoring project.

The President also visited the Baie Lazare Clinic, including the district’s Dental Clinic. Following the tour of the health facilities, President Faure in consultation with the District Authorities and Senior Health Officials present, took the decision to fast track plans for the building of a new Health Centre.

Baie Lazare is a district where agriculture is a major part of community life, and President Faure visited some of the farmers to hear their concerns and challenges. In assessing the issues raised, the relevant agencies along with the Ministry of Finance, have been instructed to draw up a formal framework that will better cater for the needs of small farms and allow the farmers to operate and conduct business with ease.

Adequate and efficient water service is also vital to the agriculture that takes place. After viewing the Val D’en D'Or Water Tank, President Faure declared it to be a priority issue and instructed the relevant authorities to conduct the necessary investigation and ensure such infrastructure is being used to its full potential for the benefit of the community.

The delegation also visited a number of families at Dezer, Val D’en D’or, Anse Gaullette, and Val Mer facing housing issues and requiring social welfare assistance. Officials present were briefed on site on their cases and decided on immediate actions.

Following the visit, the Presidential Delegation met at the Baie Lazare Community Centre and formalised the decisions taken and set time frames for follow-up action.
