Courtesy Call by SADC PF Delegation

The President of the Republic, President Danny Faure received a delegation of the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF), currently in Seychelles attending the 41st Plenary Assembly Session of the SADC PF, at State House yesterday afternoon.

The delegation included former President of Namibia, Mr Hifikepunye Pohamba, former President of South Africa, Mr Kgalema Petrus Motlanthe, former Deputy-President of Uganda, Dr Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe, Chairperson of the SADC PF regional women’s focus, Dr Jessie Kabwira, Senior Parliamentary Advisor at UNDP and the Vice-President of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, Honourable Monica Mutsvangwa.

President Faure welcomed the delegates and affirmed that Seychelles is honoured to host such an important initiative as the SADC Parliamentary Forum, especially such a historic event as the opening of the first ever Women’s Parliament Conference.  President Faure also seized the opportunity to share with the members, different aspects of Seychelles’ current political landscape and the structure of Government, where they shared ideas on addressing common challenges affecting the region; primarily the use and trafficking of illicit drugs.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Vice-President of the SADC Parliamentary Forum Honourable Monica Mutsvangwa, described discussions with the President as successful and very encouraging. She reiterated that by joining together as a regional force, common problems being faced can be more efficiently tackled.
