The President of the Republic, President Danny Faure, received a delegation of eleven judges of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Court of Justice yesterday at State House.
The COMESA Court of Justice delegation, led by Judge President Honourable Justice Lombe Chibesakunda, paid a courtesy call to President Faure as part of their Advocacy Tour in Seychelles where the first ‘Publicity Seminar' being held at the Supreme Court Auditorium at Ile Du Port today.
President Faure thanked the COMESA judges for choosing Seychelles for their advocacy campaign and for making the time to explain to the Seychellois population the role and importance of the court as established by the treaty. President Faure reaffirmed the Government’s full support in ensuring the COMESA treaty remains robust, resulting in greater protection to the levels of investment within and amongst COMESA member states.
During their discussions with the President, Judge President Honourable Justice Lombe Chibesakunda took the opportunity to thank the Government of Seychelles for its unwavering continuous support rendered to the court and outlined the numerous efforts being done to raise awareness on the role of COMESA Court of Justice amongst member states.
Representing Seychelles in the delegation is Seychellois lawyer, Honourable Justice Bernard Georges, who was appointed Judge First Instance Division, COMESA Court of Justice in March 2015. He is the first Seychellois to be appointed to the COMESA Court of Justice.
Also present for the meeting was the Minister for Finance, Trade and Economic Planning Dr Peter Larose, the Foreign Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Claude Morel, Diplomatic Adviser to the President, Ambassador Callixte D’Offay and other members of the COMESA Court of Justice delegation.
