Cabinet Business- Wednesday 6th September, 2017

President Danny Faure chaired a regular meeting of the Cabinet this morning at State House, which discussed a number of legal and policy memoranda.

Cabinet approved for the implementation of the recommendations of the Committee that investigated complaints made by staff of the National Cultural Centre regarding the effects of fungal growth within the building.  In keeping with the practice of good governance, the report will be published and staff informed.

Cabinet approved amendments to the Education Act.  This amendment is aimed at making parents take greater responsibility for the education of their children.

Cabinet approved the new Control of Dogs Bill, following extensive public consultations.  The Bill will now undergo final refinements by the Attorney General’s Office, and  will be gazetted thereafter.

Cabinet considered and approved a plan proposed by the Ministry of Fisheries & Agriculture to address urgent issues that are affecting productivity in these sectors.

Cabinet also approved the framework of a Management Plan for the Ravin de Fond Ferdinand; the Plan is intended to strengthen the general environmental protection of the area, rather than just the coco-de-mer plants therein.

Cabinet approved a supplementary budget for 2017; this will be tabled before the National Assembly for consideration.

Cabinet approved for the construction of 42 temporary housing units, which will be of one to three bedrooms, to be situated at Barbarons.

Cabinet approved for the reintroduction of the scheme of student loans from Commercial Banks.  This is in line with Government’s drive to encourage banks to play a more active role in human capacity development.

Cabinet also approved for the establishment of a National Air Transport Facilitation Committee for the country.  The Committee will bring together relevant stakeholders to address issues related to air transport facilitation.  This establishment of the Committee is also in line with international requirements.
