In line with the commitment given in his State of the Nation Address on 14th February 2017, President Danny Faure has confirmed that the prison facilities on Marie-Louise will close on 30th September, 2017.  The three prisoners who are currently detained there will be transferred to Coetivy.

The island of Marie-Louise will remain leased to the Islands Development Company, and its facilities will be used by the Seychelles People's Defence Forces for the training of recruits.
