New Belgian Ambassador Accredited

The new Ambassador for the Kingdom of Belgium to Seychelles, H.E. Ambassador Nicolas Nihon, presented his credentials to President Danny Faure at State House this morning.

The President welcomed Ambassador Nihon and his delegation to Seychelles and stated that in view of the excellent relations between Belgium and Seychelles, his accreditation today serves as a stepping stone to further consolidate the existing excellent ties.

“We are very honoured to welcome H.E Ambassador Nicolas Nihon as the new Belgian Ambassador to Seychelles and we look forward to exploring new areas of cooperation and mutual interest together,” said President Faure.

On behalf of the Government and people of Seychelles, President Faure also conveyed his appreciation to the Kingdom of Belgium for their very active support in the area of Maritime Security when Seychelles was experiencing the scourge of piracy. Aside from existing areas of cooperation in defence, investment, and training, the President also raised other potential new areas of cooperation such as disaster risk management.

During the meeting, Ambassador Nihon pledged Belgium’s full support in further enhancing cooperation ties with Seychelles in the areas discussed, and also committed to exploring new avenues of collaboration.

Ambassador Nihon was accompanied to State House by Military Attaché, Col. Claude Van-Derdonckt, and Honorary Consul of Belgium in Seychelles, Mr Xavier Heinen.

Also present for the accreditation ceremony was the Diplomatic Advisor to the President, Ambassador Calixte D’Offay, and the Principal Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Michelle Murray.
