President briefed on pre-cautionary measures to contain pneumonic plague

President Danny Faure met with Senior Officials of the Ministry of Health at the Victoria Hospital this afternoon to discuss measures in place to address and mitigate the cases of pneumonic plague in the country.

Given the public health risk, the President stressed on the importance of effective coordination, monitoring and surveillance, and dissemination of information to ensure the authorities remain in control of the situation. He urged them to reinforce measures to contain the pneumonic plague.

During the meeting, the team briefed the President Faure on current measures in place and additional efforts to intensify precautionary actions, contact tracing, community surveillance, and providing members of the public with timely, accurate and consistent information. The President took the opportunity to thank all health officials and technical teams involved for their efforts and dedication despite the difficult situation.

Present at the meeting was the Minister for Health, Mr Jean-Paul Adam, the Public Health Comissioner, Dr Jude Gedeon, the Chief Executive Officer of the Health Care Agency, Dr Danny Louange, the Director General for Public Health, Dr Meggy Louange, and Director of Disease Surveillance and Response Unit, Dr Jastin Bibi.

Following the meeting, Dr Bibi briefed members of the press on the new actions and pre-cautionary measures the Ministry has put in place.
