President Faure Meets with the author of the first trilingual dictionary in Seychelles

President Danny Faure met the author of the first trilingual dictionary in Seychelles, Mrs Colette Guillieaux at State House today. The dictionary which has been published in two volumes, aimed at promoting the Creole language.

During the meeting, President Faure who had the honour to receive an edited version of this dictionary, commended Mrs Guillieaux for the remarkable work and contribution she has done in preserving the Seychellois first language.

“I would like to thank you for all the excellent work you have done. You have left you country to settle here in Seychelles and today you are one of us. You have played an important role in preserving our Creole language. You have written many books, even worked in the Ministry of Education. You have then retired but you have continue to promote and preserve the Creole language,” said the President.

Mrs Guillieaux who is now 81 years old, spent 19 years working on the dictionary. During her encounter with the President, she traced back the different steps and challenges she had faced in putting together the dictionary to its publication.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Mrs Guillieaux shared her passion for writing and preserving the Creole language.

Born in Belgium and now a Seychellois national, Mrs Guillieaux was a former teacher at the school for the exceptional child and has worked at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education for many years.
