Cabinet Business - Wednesday 11th April 2018

President Danny Faure chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday, 11th April, at which 24 legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet approved amendments to the Communications Bill to provide for an independent body to regulate broadcasting and electronic communications.

Cabinet approved for the introduction of regulations concerning the terms of employment of stevedores.
Cabinet approved the regulations for the extension of maternity leave from 14 weeks to 16 weeks, and for paternity leave to be extended from 5 days to 10 days.

Cabinet also approved for the minimum wage to be set at the equivalent of SR5,250 per month from January, 2019.

Cabinet approved for the present scheme of fuel concessions to be extended to boat owners involved in sea cucumber harvesting.  However, all fuel concessions schemes will be phased out from January 2019 in accordance with economic reform policy.

Cabinet approved from Tax Exemption for Tuition and Training fees.

Cabinet was briefed on audit and performance management reports on certain public enterprises and institutions.

Cabinet considered reports on pest risk analysis concerning the imports of agricultural produce from Mauritius and Turkey.

Cabinet was briefed on preparatory measures being taken to reduce and ensure greater efficiency in energy consumption in public sector organisation.

Cabinet approved proposals to introduce a strategy for glass waste management.
