Courtesy Call by Mauritian Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Consumer Protection

The Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Consumer Protection, Honourable Ashit Gungah, paid a courtesy call on President Danny Faure at State House today. Minister Gungah is among the delegates attending the African Shipowners Association Summit being held in Seychelles from 23 to 25 April.

The President welcomed him to State House and extended a note of appreciation for his participation in the Summit.

Minister Gungah congratulated the President for being nominated as the leader of the development of blue economy in Africa, as recommended by the delegates attending the African Shipowners Association summit in Seychelles to the chairperson of the African Union. He further extended the continued support of Mauritius.

During the meeting, Minister Gungah also took the opportunity to thank the Government of Seychelles for assisting Mauritius in December last year following a shortage of fuel. The President and Minister Gungah also spoke on different areas of cooperation discussed during the State Visit by the Seychelles delegation in October 2017, in areas including trade and commerce, and agriculture.

They also spoke about avenues to deepen their bilateral engagement at a strategic level and better leverage significant complementarities that exist  between the two countries in key areas of mutual interest, with the aim at regional integration that could bring advantages to Africa and or other countries in the region.

Also present during the meeting was the Honorary Consul for the Republic of Mauritius based in Seychelles, Mr Francis Chang-Leng.
