President Faure receives World Bank Executive Director


The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure met with the Executive Director of the World Bank Group, Mr Andrew Bvumbe at State House yesterday. Mr Bvumbe was accompanied on his visit by the Senior Advisor to the ED, Mr. Antonio Fernando and Country Economist, Mr. Erik von Uexkull. 

President Faure welcomed Mr Bvumbe and his delegation to Seychelles and thanked him for making the time to be engage with the Government of Seychelles in finding new and innovative strategies to enhance financial cooperation between Seychelles and the World Bank. 

“Seychelles and the World Bank have very good relations and we are committed to consolidating this partnership further. Over the years we have had to adapt our financial strategies to match the Seychelles’ context as a high income Small Island Developing State, we look forward to our continued partnership with the World Bank to ensure our development remains sustainable” said President Faure. 

During the meeting,  discussions focused on potential areas of support the World Bank can provide to Seychelles through its advisory services and following the completion of the Country Partnership Framework in line with the priorities set by the Seychelles Government how the two partners can further collaborate to ensure Government priorities and goals can be materialised for the benefit of country and the people. 

Other key areas discussed include tourism, the blue economy, climate change, renewable energy as well as Seychelles’ clear vision to give the private sector the opportunity to be the main source of investment for the implementation of some of the major projects outlined in the country’s priorities. 

Also present at State House for the meeting, was the Secretary of State for Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning, Mr. Patrick Payet, the Governor of Central Bank of Seychelles, Ms. Caroline Abel, the Principal Secretary for Economic Planning Mrs. Elizabeth Agathine, the Governor of Central Bank and the Economic Advisor in the Office of the President, Mr Bertrand Belle.
