Minister of External Affairs, New Delhi calls on President Danny Faure

New Delhi, India, 25th June 2018: The Minister of External Affairs, Smt. Sushma Swaraj paid a courtesy call on President Faure at his hotel at the Oberoi, this morning.

Minister Swaraj thanked President Faure for his gracious presence in India shortly after his participation at the Founding Conference of the International Solar Alliance in Delhi last March. She characterised the relationship between the two countries not only of neighbourhood, but also of friendship and it is very wide and very deep; a relationship which has deepened during Prime Minister Modi’s mandate in the past four years.

President Faure in turn recalled that the deep connection between the two countries started as far back as the foundation of Seychelles in 1770. He spoke of the need to educate our citizens on this aspect of our history in order to give our people-to-people relationship and culture greater depth. This, he said, is necessary to bring our cooperation to the next height.

President Faure thanked India for its international solidarity which India has shown in various ways, both in good times and bad times.  Seychelles has benefited both in terms of education, training, capacity building and acquisition of assets.

Both sides agreed that the 9th Joint Commission for cooperation between the two countries which took place last May provided an excellent mechanism to move ahead with the long list of programmes and projects.
