President Faure visits two Housing Projects with substantial progress

President Danny Faure visited two social housing projects this morning, aimed at addressing housing needs and emergency cases.

These visits were an opportunity for President Faure to see for himself their status, discussed their progress, facilities and to know the preparation that needs to be done before these residential units are allocated and fully operational.

The visit began at the Emergency Housing construction site at Barbarons, next to the SPTC depot. This project is building transition houses for emergency cases or in the event that someone needs allocation on a temporary basis, while their long-term housing solution is being solved.  The project which started in May comprise of 42 units, and is expected to finish by September 2018.

President Faure then visited the Ex-Desaubin housing project phase 1 in the Takamaka district. This first phase of the projects is expected to complete in August this year. It includes the construction of 40 residential units, whereby work on all five blocks has been completed, and outstanding is the finalisation of the waste water disposal system. There is a second phase of this project which involves the construction of another 32 residential units. To note, President Faure has pledged to have build 24 units in 24 districts in 24 months in his State of the Nation Address, and this housing project forms part it.

The President was accompanied on his visit by the Minister of Family Affairs, Mrs Mitcy Larue, Minister for Habitat, Lands, Infrastructure, and Land Transport, Mrs Pamela Charlette, Principal Secretary for Infrastructure, Mr Yves Choppy, Principal Secretary for Housing, Mr Denis Barbe and Director Contract Management for the Infrastructure Department, Mr Keith Arnephy.
