Following the demise of the former United Nations Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan, the President of Seychelles, Mr Danny Faure has conveyed on behalf of the Government and People of Seychelles our heartfelt condolences to Mr Annan's family as well as to the UN family.

Mr Annan served two terms as UN chief from 1997 to 2006. He has been described as a “global statesman and deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world”.

A son of Africa, Mr Annan was not only a great humanitarian but also fervent defender of global peace and security. His devotion towards peacekeeping won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.

President Faure expressed that “we will eternally be grateful for Mr Annan’s immense contribution and legacy in making the world a better place”.

The career diplomat died in hospital in the Swiss city of Bern after suffering from a short illness. He had been living near Geneva for several years.
