President Faure visits Frégate Island

President Danny Faure obtained a first-hand view of the different facilities and best practices for the integration of sustainable tourism and environment conservation sanctuary, on the private outer island of Frégate.

Arriving on Fregate island, President Faure was welcomed by the General Manager of the Fregate Resort, Mr Wayne Kafcsak and the Guest Services Manager, Mr Steven Larue, where he was taken on a guided tour of the facilities.  The President had the opportunity to visit some of the key attractions on the island such as the Plantation House, museum, Banyan Hill Estate, the Tree House, Grand Anse Beach and the Juvenille Tortoise enclosure. The President also visited the staff quarters.

The President and his delegation had the opportunity to appreciate the flora and fauna of the island as well as the array of unique species of birds and land tortoises found on the island. They were also given an appreciation of the best practices in agriculture available on the island such as the hydroponics farming.

The Frégate Island features 16 individual eco-lodge villas and a presidential villa, situated by the beach or perched on the rocks above. The resort has been in operation since 1998 and it is expected to upgrade its guests and staff facilities next year.

During discussions with management and staff of the Resort, President Faure was given an overview of the benefits and challenges of operating and working in such tourism establishment. According to the General Manager, delivering an excellent, quality service intertwined with environment conservation are the core driving values of daily operation, supported by an able and experienced community of Seychellois staff.President Faure commended the management of the Frégate Island team for the excellent work they are doing and in maintaining the eco-system of the island.
