President Faure joins Global Call to Action on the World Drug Problem

New York, USA - President Danny Faure attended the 'Global Call to Action on the World Drug Problem' hosted by H.E. Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, this morning in the margins of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The member states present reaffirmed their commitment to address and counter the drug problem afflicting the world as a whole. President Danny Faure committed Seychelles to a political declaration proposed by the United States of America which seeks to inherently tackle the world drug problem in full conformity with international law, the United Nations Charter, and the Declaration of Human rights.

The delegates in attendance vowed to develop a four-pronged action plan strategy to tackle the issue. Firstly, to reduce demand for illicit drugs through education, awareness and prevention abuse. Secondly, to expand treatment efforts in order to save lives and promote recovery. Thirdly, to strengthen international cooperation across judicial, law enforcement and health sectors, and finally, the world leaders in attendance agreed to starve the supply of illicit drugs by eradicating their production, whether through cultivation or manufacturing.

Following the event, President Faure remarked that in view of Seychelles' current policy and own efforts in tackling the scourge of illicit drugs, he strongly aligns himself with the outcome and political statement of the event.
