Seychelles signs Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty

New York, USA: President Danny Faure attended a High Level ceremony yesterday evening where he signed the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on behalf of the Republic of Seychelles.

A historic document, the treaty is the first legally binding international agreement to comprehensively prohibit nuclear weapons, with the goal of leading towards their total elimination. For those nations that are party to it, the treaty prohibits the development, testing, production, stockpiling, stationing, transfer, use and threat of use of nuclear weapons.

President Faure was the first signatory at the ceremony and said that he remained committed to global nuclear disarmament. He said that weapons with the capability to annihilate humanity do not belong in the world. The ceremony was his final engagement in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly.
