President Faure attends the Official Opening of the National Education Conference

President Danny Faure was the guest of honour at the Official Opening Ceremony of the 2018 National Education Conference held at the Savoy Hotel yesterday evening.

The two day Conference, held under the theme “Strengthening Communities on trust in our schools”, marks the 28th anniversary of Teacher’s Day in Seychelles and is being organized by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development.

“The participation of teachers in this conference is of utmost importance as they play a central role in connecting parents with the school and community. Day after day, year in and year out, our dedicated teachers guide and accompany students through the world of learning, helping them discover and fulfil their potential by creating a supportive learning environment. They rely on parents to make this happen in an effective way. Through the various discussions and sharing of experiences in this conference, teachers will better understand the dynamics of communities they serve,” said the Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, Mrs Jeanne Simeon in her opening address to formally launch the Conference.

She continued, “Our most valued clients are our students. Their participation in this conference is testimony to the important principle we uphold of giving students a voice as they move toward being active and productive participants. Their perspectives are equally important.”

During the ceremony, there was also keynote address by Dr Michel Rosalie, a consultant who will also participate in the Conference. The Conference will see the participation of key partners in education, including the School Council, parents, students, school leaders and other stakeholders in education. The participants will deliberate on best practices and major challenges from their perspectives, and make recommendations so as to strengthen partnerships and communities of trust in the schools.

In addition to the conference, a series of activities have been organised to commemorate Teacher’s week.
