President Faure receives Seychellois Graduate Teachers from Botswana

President Danny Faure received a group of eight teachers that achieved first class honours in their Bachelor of Education at the University of Botswana, at State House today.

President Faure congratulated the teachers for their outstanding performance, saying, “Today, I wish to congratulate all of you for your remarkable results. You have all made our country proud and today I wish to share this special occasion with you. It is the first time that an entire cohort scored first class honours. I hope that you will all continue to be role models to other teachers, and continue to add value to our education system.”

Among the graduates, Ms Jocelyn Mary-Jane Dogley, was the recipient of the University of Botswana Valedictorian award, given to the best overall student at the University. This honour is given to a student who demonstrates overall academic excellence and leadership qualities for the duration of his or her studies.

During the meeting at State House, the graduates shared with President Faure their experiences at the University, and how their studies are helping them in their work. The teachers noted that it was being there for one another and supporting each other as a group, that helped all of them to score high grades and excel in their studies.

The eight Seychellois teachers studied at the University of Botswana for two years since 2016. In addition to Jocelyn Mary-Jane Dogley, other teachers in the cohort included Rannia De Commarmond, Regina Duval, Francisca Hollanda, Pamela Monnaie, Donna Payet, Maria Rath and Marcella Belle. From 2012 to 2018, 47 Seychellois teachers have graduated from the University of Botswana.

Also present at the meeting was the Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, Mrs Jeanne Simeon, Principal Secretary for Higher Education and Human Resource Development, Dr Linda Barallon,and Chief Executive Officer for Agency for National Human Resource Development, Mrs Nadia Lauricourt.
