Visit by high level representative of the Government of the People’s Republic of China

President Danny Faure received the Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, H.E. Mr Liu Qibao, at State House this morning.

President Faure welcomed Mr Liu and his delegation to Seychelles. Mr Liu, on his part, brought greetings from President Xi Jinping and said that his visit comes at an ideal time following the fruitful 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which President Faure attended last month. Mr Liu spoke of the new momentum in Seychelles-China relations following the bilateral meeting with President Xi, and said that with the accreditation of the new Ambassador in China, the two countries will continue to take their relations to new heights.

Discussions centred on the excellent relations that exist between Seychelles and China, the Memoranda of Understanding signed during the President’s visit to China, and the ongoing projects that China is supporting in Seychelles. Mr Liu also discussed China’s economic progress and efforts to combat poverty. President Faure expressed how the principle of people-centred development is shared by both the Chinese and Seychellois governments, and forms a solid foundation for bilateral relations.

Both President Faure and H.E. Mr Liu reaffirmed their  commitment to take the friendship between Seychelles and China to new heights and develop cooperation in various sectors further.
