President Faure receives report on the 139th General Assembly of IPU from the Speaker of the National Assembly

President Danny Faure was today presented with a report on the 139th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Nicholas Prea.

The Speaker was accompanied to State House by his delegation that attended the Conference in Switzerland: Members of the National Assembly, Honourable Waven William and Honourable Jany de Letourdie, the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs Tania Isaac, and the Speaker of the Youth Assembly, Mr Roberto Legaie.

During the meeting with President Faure this morning, the Speaker briefed the President on the Conference which was held in Geneva, Switzerland from 12 to 18 October 2018. The Speaker mentioned how Seychelles succeeded at the General Assembly defending their proposal entitled “Climate Change – Let us not cross the line”, which received the most votes and was also unanimously voted as a Resolution of the 139th General Assembly of the IPU.

President Faure thanked Speaker Prea and his delegation for sharing the report with his office, and for his leadership in bringing the country’s agenda to the 139th General Assembly of IPU. The President also commended the Speaker for the representative delegation that attended the event, which included both women and young people.

A copy of the report will also be presented to other key departments such as Energy and Climate Change and Foreign Affairs.
