Courtesy Call by World Bank Country Director for Seychelles

The Country Director for Seychelles at the World Bank, Mr Mark Lundell, paid a courtesy call on President Danny Faure at State House yesterday.

The President welcomed Mr Lundell to Seychelles and on behalf of the Government of Seychelles, he thanked the World Bank as well other key international institutions for their support, without which he stated the macro-economic reform programme would not have succeeded.

Their meeting centred on the Symposium on Economic and Social Transformation commemorating 10 years since Seychelles embarked on the IMF Reform Programme. Mr Lundell personally congratulated the President on the successful event.  He noted that the success of the reforms over the last 10 years is what attracts the World Bank to see how things were done in practice under very difficult circumstances.

“We are very much interested to participate in the next round of ideas to meet today’s current challenges here in Seychelles. Be it with youth employment; small and medium enterprises; having strong role for private sector; infrastructure investment; and making sure that the social protection system is well targeted. Those are the areas we look forward to engage with,” said Mr Lundell.
