President Faure attends opening of Oliver Housing Estate

The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, attended the official opening of the Oliver Housing Estate at St Louis this afternoon. The entire project consists of five blocks, comprising of a total of 36 units of which 12 are 3 bedroom units and 24 are 2 bedroom units. The project was completed in December this year.

Despite limited buildable land in St Louis, the housing estate is the result of lengthy negotiations with the former owner of the property, Mrs Therese Oliver, who is also the namesake of the housing estate. It is the first housing estate allocated using the new Land Points system.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport, Mrs Pamela Charlette, said, “This project confirms Government’s commitment to provide 24 housing units in 25 districts in 24 months. This represents a ‘dream come true’ for needy and aspiring families and it is a sign of hope for those families in waiting.”

The opening ceremony also included a performance by the Belonie School Choir and the Ministry’s Choir.
