President Faure chairs meeting of the Defence Forces Council

President Danny Faure, the Minister for Defence and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, chaired the first meeting of the Defence Forces Council for the year 2019 yesterday morning at State House.

During the meeting, the President and members of the Council discussed the way forward to modernise the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) as part of a restructuring process, which will include a new recruitment process, retirement policy, and transparency in the way SPDF uses its budget.

In an interview with the national media, the Chief of Staff of SPDF, Colonel Michael Rosette, said that in order for SPDF to be able to implement the new measures effectively, the military institution would be working closely with the Ministry of Finance as well as the Procurement Unit. He further stated that as per the new restructuring, the SPDF will be focusing on matters at sea.
