President Faure meets members of the Board of IDC

President Danny Faure met with the Board members of the Island Development Company (IDC) yesterday afternoon at State House.

The President thanked and commended the Board as well the staff of IDC for the good work they are doing. He made reference to his familiarisation tours on some of the islands and noted the innovative activities that this company is doing in the conservation of those islands. President Faure also commented on the effect of climate change on these islands and the likely need for future resources to deal with these effects.

The Chairman of the Board of the IDC, Mr Patrick Berlouis presented the company’s activities of the company over the past five years.  Board members also shared with the President their plans for this year and ahead on the different islands which include the on-going resurfacing of airstrips, hotel developments, renewable energy projects, agriculture, aquaculture, expansion of the domestic tourism establishment, on-going activities with the Island Conservation Society (ICS), rehabilitation of the coastline in the aftermath of climate change, staff housing the new IDC Headquarters on Mahe and a few others.

IDC’s principal activity is the management and development of 14 islands on behalf of the Seychelles Government. 13 of these islands are on lease from the Government and the 14th one; Coetivy, IDC is also providing services.

Also present at the meeting was the Economic Advisor to the President, Mr Bertrand Belle; and other Board members.
