President Danny Faure chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday 3rd April, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet also approved for the draft Corporate Responsibility Tax and Tourism Marketing Tax (Amendment) Bills, 2019. The amendments aims to rectify the issue faced by businesses that operate on a commission basis.

Cabinet considered the income tax implications on non-resident workers in Seychelles, particularly those who originate from a country with which Seychelles has a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.

Cabinet also approved the Seychelles Biodiversity Finance Plan, the Policy recommendations and Measures which would engage the Tourism Sector and Importers to increase their contribution towards Biodiversity Conservation and Biosecurity and for the establishment of the Biodiversity Finance Unit.

Cabinet approved for the ratification of the Kigali Amendment of 2016 to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that deplete the Ozone layer. The Ratification will provide Seychelles with an opportunity to be one of the first movers and to also adopt new technologies that are both climate and Ozone friendly.

Cabinet considered the road naming for newly constructed main roads following the Competition which took place in 2018 organised under the purview of the Department of Land Transport. The necessary regulations for the legal proclamation of the 7 roads to be named would be prepared by the Department of Legal Affairs.

Cabinet approved to initiate an exercise to review legislation on Citizenship. The main objective of the review is to invite the participation of organisations, agencies and the public in a series of discussion with a view to recommending amendments to the specific legislation.

Cabinet approved for the drafting of a proposed regulation on the Sale of packages and Individual cigarette, under the Tobacco Control Act 2009 and the World Health Organisation Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.

Cabinet considered and approved the Final Draft of the Physical Planning Bill, 2019, which will now be published in the Official Gazette.

Cabinet considered for the building of SIAD and SBSA together at Anse Royale by the Chinese Government, and support the most viable option for the relocation of SIAD to facilitate the construction of the new building for those two institutions.

Cabinet approved for the accession and domestication of the International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage 2001. This will ensure that adequate prompt and effective compensation is available to persons who suffer damage caused by bunker oil pollution from ships other than oil tankers.
