President Assents to Legislation: Public Persons (Declaration of Assets, Liabilities and Business Interests) (Amendment) Act, 2019

President Danny Faure has today assented to the Public Persons (Declaration of Assets, Liabilities & Business Interests) (Amendment) Act, 2019, which was approved to by the National Assembly on 19th March, 2019, and received by the President for assent on 12th April, 2019.

The Public Persons (Declaration of Assets, Liabilities & Business Interests) Act, 2016 makes provision for the declaration of assets, liabilities and business interests by the President, the Vice President, the Designated Minister and Ministers, the Members of the National Assembly, including the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition, the Leader of Government Business, the Mayor of Victoria and the Councillors of District Councils.

The Amendment to the Law will allow the Chairperson of the Public Officer Ethics Commission to be assigned the responsibility for receiving the Declarations, should there be no suitable applicants to serve as Commissioner of Declarations.
