Cabinet Business - Thursday, 3 May 2019

Vice President Vincent Meriton chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet on Thursday 2nd April, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet approved the Privatisation of the Union Vale Veterinary Clinic.  The Clinic will be leased out to a number of vets who will offer private Veterinary Care services there for domestic animals.

Cabinet gave approval for the Regulation relating to Aquaculture in Seychelles. The new regulations will establish the Aquaculture Authority, its regulatory committee as well as other provisions governing the implementation of the Seychelles National Aquaculture Policy.

Cabinet approved proposals for the reform of Domiciliary Care.  The reforms will provide for a more transparent Domiciliary Care Programme and will improve the current system by reducing the potential for abuse.

Cabinet approved for the Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT) of the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development and the Indian Ocean Tuna Company. The MoU will establish the framework under which SIT Students can gain work experience at the Company. The collaboration between the SIT and IOT contribute to the provision of skilled graduates for employment and the localization of posts in the Company.

Cabinet also approved for the Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Fair Trading Commission of Seychelles and the State Administration for Market Regulation in China (SAMR) and between the Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment & Economic Planning and SAMR. Both MoUs will enhance bilateral cooperation between Seychelles and China. It will enable the sharing of information, exchange of staff, and help to build capacity in the areas of consumer protection, fair competition and market surveillance.

Cabinet approved for the renegotiation of the Free Trade Agreement between the Government of Seychelles and the Government of Turkey to enable Seychelles to secure appropriate market access in Turkey.
