President Appoints New Chairperson of the National Council for the Elderly

President Danny Faure has today announced the appointment of Ms Dinah Hibonne as the new Chairperson of the National Council for the Elderly (NCE).  This follows the resignation of Mrs Jeanine Chung-Faye who has occupied this position since the 23rd August 2018.

Ms Hibonne, has had a long career in the nursing profession, beginning in 1976. She started as a student nurse and moved to more senior positions such as staff nurse, nursing officer, senior nursing officer; she was a nurse manager when she retired in 2018.

The Vice-Chairperson of the NCE Board is Ms Anne Desir.  The other Board Members are Ms Bibianne Fred, Mr Justin Meme, Mr Gerald Kiwale, Ms Betty-Mai Sofa and Ms Sophia Rosalie.

The CEO of the NCE is Ms Marie-France Pereira.

The functions of the National Council for the Elderly are to:

  • advise the Government on all matters concerning the elderly;
  • develop standards of care, with a view to professionalise and maintain a high standard of care and service to the elderly;
  • monitor, evaluate and regulate domiciliary care being provided; and
  • register persons wishing to be employed to work as domiciliary care workers.

Ms Hibonne’s appointment takes effect from 1st July 2019.
