President Faure meets high level representative of the Government of China

President Danny Faure received the State Councillor of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Mr Wang Yong, at State House this morning.

President Faure welcomed Mr Wang and his delegation to Seychelles. Mr Wang brought greetings from President Xi Jinping and said that his visit to Seychelles aims to further promote the implementation of understanding between the two Presidents following the fruitful 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which President Faure attended in September 2018. Mr Wang spoke of new momentum in Seychelles-China relations following the fruitful meeting between President Faure and with President Xi, which chartered the way forward for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

Discussions centred on the excellent relations that exist between Seychelles and China, how the two countries can enhance their practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges as well as how elevate the China-Seychelles relations. They discussed ongoing projects that China is supporting in Seychelles, such as the construction of the new Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) building. President Faure expressed Seychelles’ appreciation for all the assistance from the Chinese government in the country’s socio-economic development in many areas including education, housing and health.

Both President Faure and H.E. Mr Wang reaffirmed their commitment to boost the excellent relations between Seychelles and China and continue to develop cooperation in various sectors.

Also present at the meeting this morning was Vice-President Meriton, the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Marina Confait, resident Ambassador in Beijing, Ambassador Vivianne Fock-Tave, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Seychelles, Mrs Guo Wei and other officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs.
