President Faure visits Ile du Swet Quarantine Centre and Port Victoria

President Danny Faure visited the new quarantine centre on Ile du Swet this morning, where the ex-military facilities have been redeveloped to increase quarantine capacity.

President Faure visited the two blocks of 32 rooms for both single and double occupancy, and families. It also includes accommodation facilities for healthcare workers. Residents at this facility will be able to move around freely as the compound has been fenced and is isolated. The rooms have been equipped with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, and there is consideration to include other amenities such as Wi-Fi Internet services and televisions. The renovation work was undertaken by Green Island Construction Company (GICC) at a cost of 3.5 million Seychelles Rupees.

The President was accompanied on his visit by the Secretary of State for Health, Mrs Marie-Pierre Lloyd, Chief Executive Officer of the Islands Development Company Ltd, Mr Glenny Savy, CEO of the Health Care Agency, Dr Danny Louange, and the Public Health Commissioner, Dr Jude Gédéon. After the tour, Mr Savy took the opportunity to formally present Dr Louange with the keys of the facility.

In the afternoon, President Faure visited the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) and Ile du Port Handling Services Ltd, continuing his visits to essential service providers in the country and express his appreciation to all those working through this difficult time.

Speaking at the meetings, President Faure said, “At the moment, the main economic activity in Seychelles is taking place at the port. As you adapt to this new reality, and ahead of Labour Day tomorrow, I wanted to say thank you for your hard work.

“It is critical that Seychelles can bounce back and bounce back fast after this pandemic. We need to stay vigilant and put guidelines from the Department of Health into practice to protect our people, our economy, and our country.”
