After completing his law degree at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka, Justice Anthony Fernando worked as an Attorney-at-Law for the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Sri Lanka where he reached the position of Senior State Counsel.

In 1992, he joined the Attorney General’s Office of Seychelles as Principal State Counsel. He later served as Attorney General of the Republic of Seychelles for 10 years from January 1999 until he was appointed Justice of the Court of Appeal of Seychelles in 2009.

Speaking to the press following his swearing-in ceremony, Justice Fernando said, "I have been in the Court of Appeal for the last 10 years and I feel that my experience will allow me to do a good job in this role. I will do my best for the Court and for the country. We will try to dispose of as many cases as possible, but the most important thing is to maintain the independence and impartiality of the Court; I will strive for without fear or favour.”
