Message by President Wavel Ramkalawan on the occasion of Anti-Corruption Day

Today on International Anti-Corruption Day we would like to reinforce our commitment to fighting corruption at all levels in our society. The World Bank, IMF, Transparency International define Corruption as abuse of entrusted power for private gain.

We note the failures of some government ministries, departments and agencies in their appropriation of public funds from the Auditor General’s report of 2019. We urge our public servants to work with integrity, to be transparent and accountable for all decisions they make when dealing with public resources. During this time of economic hardship, we are all responsible to eliminate wastage in the public sector.

The government maintains its commitment to support the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACCS) in delivering on its mandate to prevent, detect, investigate and prosecute perpetrators of corruption. We would like to thank the EU in assisting ACCS through technical aid funding to fight corruption in Seychelles and we sincerely hope that such commitment will continue for the years to come.
