Cabinet Business
Agreement The Protocol of the EC/Seychelles Fisheries Interim Partnership Agreement (2011-2014) was approved.Cabinet advised that funds made available under the Partnership Agreement be put to effective use, e.g. for value-added fish processing, and to fund a training vessel for the Maritime Training Centre.
Cabinet decided against an increase in the levy on imported meat for the time being. However Cabinet advised that greater use be made of the Livestock Trust Fund to enable farmers to benefit from improved production and slaughter facilities, so as to reduce overall local production costs.
The availability of imported meat at competitive prices would benefit consumers, and the import levy in turn would benefit local farmers.
Proposals for improvements in the delivery and monitoring of home care services were approved. The terms and conditions of home care workers would also be reviewed to ensure fairness and equity.Effective from 1st January 2011.
Cabinet approved the establishment of an insurance scheme for farmers and fishermen. Insurance providers should be encouraged to offer attractive schemes that would also provide timely relief.
Terminal The Seychelles Ports Authority would undertake a major renovation of the passenger and traffic facilities at the Inter-Island Ferry Terminal in Victoria. Once renovation has been completed, tenders for specific services at the terminal would be invited.
