The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Seychelles International Airport on Tuesday evening.

He was greeted warmly at the airport by Seychelles President James Michel, Vice President Danny Faure, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Transport, Joel Morgan, the Indian High Commissioner to Seychelles, Sanjay Panda, senior officials from the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of the Indian community in Seychelles.

“ Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greatly honored the Seychellois people by this visit, which is a symbol of the excellent ties between our two peoples. We have longstanding bilateral relations based on our commitment to sustainable development.  India is a close friend of Seychelles,” said President Michel.

Prior to his departure from India, Prime Minister Modi issued a statement saying;

“India’s relationship with Seychelles has been built on the foundation of mutual trust and shared values. My visit to Seychelles will be the first Prime Ministerial visit to Seychelles since 1981. I am keenly looking forward to my meeting with President James Michel, a great friend of India.”

On Wednesday, the Indian and Seychelles delegations will meet at the State House for bilateral talks. Three separate agreements are to be signed during the visit in the fields of hydrography, renewable energy and security.

Prime Minister Modi will be in Seychelles from the 10th to the 11th of March as part of a tour of three Indian Ocean Islands.

Seychelles and India established diplomatic relations in 1976.
