President Michel congratulates new UK Prime Minister on appointment

President James Michel has extended his sincere congratulations to the newly appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Mrs. Theresa May.

In a congratulatory letter, Mr. Michel expressed his confidence in Mrs. May’s leadership abilities and expressed the Seychelles government’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations.

“I am confident that your past experiences while working in key national and government institutions will serve you well in your new role. Our countries have collaborated closely for many years and I am certain that our work will continue to gain momentum under your leadership. Seychelles and the United Kingdom have shared a most privileged relationship based on mutual respect and shared values over the years and this has further been strengthened of late, through our partnership in the fight against piracy, the blue economy initiative, in climate change adaptation endeavours, as well as in education and in the empowerment of local non-governmental organisations,” said President Michel in his letter.

In a separate message addressed to the outgoing Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron, President Michel conveyed his deepest sentiments of appreciation and commendations for the work he had carried out during his term in office.

“I wish to express my sincere congratulations to you on your tenure as Prime Minister, as well as to express our deepest gratitude to you for the active support that you have given to our nation and in ensuring positive and innovative action toward assisting Seychelles development over the years. Seychelles and the UK have shared a lasting friendship which goes back over so many years, characterised through notable examples of cooperation across various sectors and it is my sincere hope that relations between our two countries continue to expand through the leadership of your successor,” said Mr. Michel.

Mr. Michel wished Mr. Cameron success in all his future endeavours.
