President Faure visit schools on Mahe to mark International Children’s Day

To commemorate International Children’s Day, President Danny Faure visited students in two schools on Mahe.

The visit started at Bel Eau primary school, where he was welcomed by the Headteacher, Mrs Jane Laurete and the Chairperson of the Bel Eau School Council, Mr Clive Contoret.

The school had organised a special programme which was animated by the students themselves, with prayers, songs and poems.

President Faure then toured an exhibition under the theme, “Let your Light Shine”, which was showcased by poems, drawing competitions with the different cycle of life.

He then addressed the students and all those present. The President said that he is happy to have been able to spend this important day among them. He noted that his presence and that of the teachers, parents and other invitees shows the love and affection that they have for them. President Faure strongly emphasized that parents and all those working with children need to show them love and that there is a society that cultivates love in the heart of the children.

“We need to love and treasure our children and as we do so, we need to help and guide them as they are growing up. Like you have portrayed in your exhibition, you all want to have someone that leads you, and that is exactly the role of parents. The light represents the direction and it will determine where you want to lead your child. I would like to thank all parents that are taking their responsibilities and playing their roles as mothers and fathers as well as cultivating love in the heart of our children. I thank the teachers, you who have this shared responsibilities to educate and guide our children towards that light,” said the President in his remarks.

He commended the work that the Bel Eau School Council is doing and reiterated that the school needs them.

President Faure then proceeded to the School of the Exceptional Child at Roche Caiman. Accompanied by the Chairperson and Head Teacher of the school, President Faure visited some of the classrooms and discussed with the teachers and had the opportunity to briefly follow up on the progress of the students.

The presidential visit and tour of the schools were concluded by donations from the Children’s Special Fund which included a photocopier and a cooker to the Bel Eau Primary School and to the School for the Exceptional Child respectively.
