Seychelles to engage in strengthening South-South Cooperation

The Vice President, Mr. Danny Faure, will represent the Head of State, President James Alix Michel at the commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Asian –African Conference (ACC) and the 10th Anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) Summit to be hosted by the Republic of Indonesia and held from 22nd to 24th April 2015 in the cities of Bandung and Jakarta respectively.

The commemorative events, under the theme, ‘Strengthening South-south Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity’, will provide delegates with the right  platform to exchange views, share experiences on the economic development in their respective regions and address both internal and external challenges.

Participating countries will also have the opportunity to discuss ways to create and maintain peace in Asian and African regions as well as build cross-sectoral cooperation in the two continents.

The Vice President’s delegation includes the Non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles to the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Waven William and the Seychelles Consul General in Jakarata, Indonesia, Mr. Nico Barrito.

From Indonesia, the Vice President will proceed on an official visit to the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of the Chinese Government.  He will be accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles to the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Philippe Le Gall.

  • The ACC, also called the Bandung Conference, was held for the first time in April 1995,in Bandung, Republic of  Indonesia, with the aim to promote solidarity among newly independent former colonies, mainly in Asia. 29 countries from Asian and African regions participated in the Conference and adopted the Principles of Bandung, agreeing to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nation sand to promote Asian-African economic and cultural cooperation.
  • The  NAASP is an initiative launched at the 50th anniversary commemoration of the ACC, in 2005, as a means of revitalising the long standing solidarity and spirit of cooperation between Asian and African countries.
