Popular Seychellois Artist Joe Samy launches new song ‘Oceans and Visions’

President Danny Faure was presented today with a copy of a song entitled ‘Oceans and Visions’ from Seychellois artist, Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Mr Joe Samy. In a ceremony held at State House, Mr Samy sang the song which he dedicated to the President.

Mr Samy said that he was inspired to write the song when he saw the Head of State delivering a live address from below ocean surface, during a submersible dive on Sunday 14 April 2019, during the Seychelles Nekton expedition.

“For me, this was an inspiring speech and it showed President Faure’s commitment to protect the ocean. That day inspired me to write the song ‘Oceans and Visions’ to commemorate this historical moment whereby our President; a pioneer and activist in the preservation of our oceans and our environment, speaks to us and people around the world from a depth of 124 metres below the ocean surface,” said Mr Samy.

Addressing the P6 students from Bel Eau primary school present at the ceremony, Mr Samy described them as “our future”. He encouraged them to read the President’s speech and expressed his hope that the song inspires them to learn more about, and in turn preserve, the environment.

Mr Samy also thanked Mr Micky Anthony, Mr Nabby Jules, Mr Michael Savy and Ms Sandra Esparon for their help in the production of the song.
