Law Enforcement Committee discusses preparations for easing of restrictions

President Danny Faure chaired a meeting with the Law Enforcement committee and key command chain stakeholders at State House this morning.

The meetings provide a holistic overview of the situation in the country in terms of public health and security. Today’s discussions focused on preparations ahead of the easing of some of the restrictions to mitigate the coronavirus pandemic.

Authorities stressed that although no new cases of COVID-19 have been identified since 6 April, the country should remain alert and continue to adhere to all guidelines set by the Public Health Authority, especially when certain restrictions are lifted next week.

During the meeting, the President took the opportunity to convey his appreciation to all members of the committee as well as their staff for all their hard work and dedication during this time of crisis.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Romano Songor, thanked the public for their cooperation over the past few weeks. He emphasised that although some restrictions are being eased, law enforcement will continue, and that it remains critical to adhere to Public Health guidelines at all times. He stressed on the importance of effective physical distancing and maintaining good hygiene in particular, to ensure that the coronavirus is successfully contained.
