President Faure receives Eastern Africa Standby Force election observers

The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, welcomed election observers from the Eastern Africa Standby Force for a courtesy call at State House this morning. The international delegation is in the country to observe the 2020 General Elections and is comprised of the Head of the Observer Mission, Mr Dawit Assefa Wassihun, and the EASF Communication Manager, Mr Jules Hoareau.

The Observers of the EASF election observer mission arrived in the country on October 9 and were released from quarantine this morning, October 22, in time to observe the first day of the special voting in designated polling stations.  

President Faure expressed the sincere appreciation of the government of Seychelles to the EASF for their presence in the country during this important period and said that as a credible international organisation they serve to create public trust in the democratic process.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Mr Wassihun said they have appreciated the strong mutual respect that exists among the leaders of political parties and presidential candidates, saying it displays the political maturity of Seychelles. He urged all eligible voters to exercise their constitutional right and make their voices heard by casting their vote. 

The Presidential and National Assembly Elections is taking place over the next 3 days from 22 to 24 October 2020.
