Cabinet Business- Friday, 04 December 2020

Vice President Ahmed Afif, standing in for President Wavel Ramkalawan who remains in quarantine following his overseas mission, chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Friday 4thDecember 2020 at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet approved for Seychelles to ratify the agreement establishing the African Continental Free Trade Are (AfCFTA).  

Cabinet approved to amend Schedule III of the Customs Management (Tariff and Classification of Goods) Regulations, 2018 to include Tunisia as a member of COMESA FTA.

Cabinet approved actions towards the establishment of the United Kingdom and Eastern and Southern Africa Economic Partnership Agreement. These will include the exchange of instruments for the coming into force of the Partnership Agreement between the UK and ESA.  Cabinet also approved for the signing of the MoU on Tuna derogation allocation; and the amendment of the Customs Management (Tariff and Classification of Goods) Regulations 2018.

Cabinet also approved amendment to the Credit Information System policy. The policy, which will be implemented in a phased approach, aims at improving the quality of information available in the financial system to evaluate the credit-worthiness of consumers.

Cabinet approved the Ownership Policy for Public Enterprises. The policy articulates the Government’s expectations, policies and functional relationships with respect to its public enterprises in the fulfilment of their mandates.

Cabinet also gave approval to the Dividend Policy which establishes a transparent framework by which the public enterprises will make dividend payments to the Government.

Cabinet was briefed on the plan to implement a National Postal Addressing System. Further consultations will be held on the plan.
