President Ramkalawan receives newly installed Roman Catholic Bishop

The President of the Republic, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan welcomed the new Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Port Victoria, Bishop Alain Harel at State House this morning. The Bishop was accompanied for the courtesy call by Cardinal Maurice Piat and Bishop Denis Weihe.

President Ramkalawan once again formally conveyed his congratulations to Bishop Harel on the occasion of his installation during a special ceremony held at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Victoria yesterday. On behalf of the people of Seychelles, the President also formally welcomed him to the country and took the opportunity to reiterate the government's continued support and collaboration with the Roman Catholic Church. 

Amongst some of the topics discussed, included the role of the Roman Catholic Church in spiritual education, raising greater awareness of morality and ethical practices as well as how to collectively enhance collaboration alongside other partners in the community to address various social challenges. 

Speaking to the Press after the meeting, Bishop Harel said he was very honoured for the invitation to State House and although still new to the country, he is looking forward to joining forces to further work with the State and other partners in various domains for the good of the people and the country.
