Cabinet Decisions

Cabinet Business - Wednesday 09th January 2019

President Danny Faure chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday morning, 9th January, at which a number of policy memoranda were considered.

Prior to the scheduled meeting of the Cabinet, President Danny Faure addressed the Special Advisors of Ministers who had been invited for part of the meeting.  The President emphasised their important role in giving policy advice, and in facilitating the proper implementation of programs within the portfolio of the relevant Ministries.

Cabinet approved in principle a proposed Economic Partnership Agreement between the United Kingdom and countries of Eastern and Southern Africa which would ensure continuity of trade between Seychelles and the UK once the latter leaves the European Union.  The Economic Partnership Agreement would be submitted for ratification by the National Assembly.

Cabinet endorsed the update on the preparation for the disbursement of proceeds of the Blue Bond to implementing partners and on the programmes of sensitisation, capacity building to enable access to the funds under the SWIOFish3.

Cabinet approved for the Signing of the Cooperation and Mutual Assistance Agreement between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Seychelles Government to create a customs cooperation administrative framework, taking into account the significant volume of cargo imported to Seychelles through the UAE.

Cabinet approved the Adoption of the WHO Universal Health Coverage and Tobacco Control for the WHO to document the experience of Seychelles in its progress towards universal health coverage and Tobacco Control.

Cabinet then approved for the Hosting and Staging in 2020 of the Federation International de Natation (FINA) World Junior Open Water Swimming Competition which is a three-day international competition for boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 19 allowing them to compete at the highest level.

Cabinet also approved for the Review of Employment Fees 2019 which allows for the review of two existing employment fees in relation to the contracts of employment of non-Seychellois, and the introduction of two new fees, namely the processing fee for application of employment of non-Seychellois, and the fee for appeal against non-approval of posts.
