The Office of the President wishes to extend its warmest greetings and profound appreciation to all members of the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) as the nation commemorates Seychelles Defence Forces Day today.
On this momentous occasion, President Dr Patrick Herminie, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Seychelles Defence Forces, pays tribute to the Seychelles People's Defence Forces who, 44 years ago today, protected the integrity and security of our nation during a grave threat to our sovereignty. This defining moment tested the resilience and determination of the men and women of the Defence Forces, who stood firm in protection of our nation and our people. Reflecting on the continued dedication, sacrifice, and professionalism of those who safeguard the sovereignty, peace, and security of our Republic, the President acknowledges the tireless commitment of the SDF across all units, on land, at sea, and in the air, who work day and night to protect our people and uphold national stability.
The Head of State emphasises that the strength of the SDF lies not only in its operational capabilities but equally in the integrity and unity of its personnel. He reaffirms the Government's unwavering commitment to supporting the continuous professional and technical development, wellbeing, and empowerment of our defence officers, recognising their indispensable role in maintaining Seychelles as a secure and resilient nation.
The President further highlights the evolving challenges of national security, including maritime protection, disaster response, and emerging forms of transnational threats. He expresses confidence that the SDF will continue to meet these responsibilities with excellence, supported by ongoing national efforts to modernise capabilities, upgrade infrastructure, and strengthen institutional capacity.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Seychelles, the President expresses sincere gratitude to all serving officers and their families who stand steadfastly behind them. The nation honours the unwavering courage of its veterans and the path they carved for generations to follow. They stood as sentinels in the nation's most formative years, their dedication woven into the very fabric of independence and sovereignty. Though time may pass, their legacy endures in every peaceful dawn, in every child who grows up safe and free. The nation remembers, and the nation is forever grateful. Their sacrifice and service remain vital to the stability and progress of the country.
As the nation marks this important day, the President calls upon all Seychellois to honour the bravery, loyalty, and patriotism of the Seychelles Defence Forces, guardians of our Constitution and symbols of national pride.
