Fellow Seychellois,
As Seychelles joins the international community in commemorating the International Day of Peace, this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”, reminds us that peace is not simply something we enjoy. It is something we must consciously build, protect and strengthen.
I welcome the contribution of the International Peace Day Committee, working in collaboration with UPF Seychelles, the Father’s Association, WASO, the Mayor’s Office, SNYC, the Ministry of Education, Zanfan Losean EZ and the Charity Choir, in bringing together voices from across our society around this shared message of peace.
This year’s observance comes at an important moment for our country. Following the Presidential and National Assembly elections in 2025 and the peaceful transition of power, we have an opportunity to strengthen our unity as a nation and place the common good of Seychelles above our differences.
Peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is built through trust, respect, dialogue and compassion. For Seychelles, peace has long been one of our greatest strengths, and in a world where many countries continue to experience conflict and human suffering, we must never take the peace and stability of our islands for granted.
The message put forward by the International Peace Day Committee is one that deserves our collective reflection: investing in peace means investing in people. It means giving our children an environment in which they can grow with dignity and hope, empowering our youth through education and opportunity, strengthening families and communities, protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that everyone feels valued and able to contribute.
The responsibility for safeguarding peace does not rest with government alone. It belongs to all of us: families, communities, civil society, faith-based organisations, educators, businesses and every citizen.
Peace begins in our homes, workplaces and communities, in how we treat one another and how we respond to those whose views may differ from our own.
Elections may reflect different political choices, but our destiny as a nation is shared. Beyond our individual views and affiliations, we are first and foremost Seychellois, with a collective responsibility to preserve the stability, harmony and unity of our country.
On this International Day of Peace, I join the International Peace Day Committee and its partners in calling upon every Seychellois to become an everyday architect of peace.
Let us choose dialogue over division, understanding over prejudice and cooperation over confrontation. Let us protect the peace that generations before us have helped to build and invest in the peace we wish to leave for our children and grandchildren.
Let us move forward together, united by our love for our country and our shared commitment to the common good of Seychelles.
May peace continue to prevail in our homes, in our communities, across our islands and throughout the world.
